In an event held on June 26, 2025, Capcom revealed that the fan-favorite character, Leon Kennedy, won’t be in Resident Evil Requiem. The director of the game, Koshi Nakanishi, and the producer, Masachika Kawata, explained to fans why the beloved secret agent would not be returning to the ninth installment of the hit franchise.
Leon isn’t a good fit for Resident Evil Requiem
Nakanishi said that while Leon was originally supposed to be the star of Resident Evil Requiem, he ultimately decided that the character was not a “good match” for the new game. The director even went on to say that Leon wasn’t a good fit for the horror franchise as a whole. He explained, “He wouldn’t jump at something like a bucket falling. No one wants to see Leon scared by every little thing. So he’s actually a bad match for horror.”
Resident Evil Requiem stars Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak. Grace, who is now an FBI analyst gets sent to investigate a virus outbreak at the Wrenwood Hotel where her mother was murdered eight years ago.
Resident Evil Requiem will be released on February 27, 2026. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
