Swat Kats returns with first-ever comic series, launching on Kickstarter this fall

MegaKat City is about to roar back, louder, wilder, and more radical than ever.

After more than 30 years, SWAT KATS is back, and this time, the cult-favorite ‘90s cartoon is leaping from the skies to the comic page for the very first time. The all-new series, MegaKat City Has Fallen, will debut on Kickstarter in Fall 2025, packed with exclusive rewards and surprises for fans old and new.

Joining the project is industry veteran Joseph P. Illidge, former Batman and Milestone editor at DC Comics, who brings his sharp storytelling instincts to the cockpit as the series’ editor.

The creative team is stacked: Frank J. Barbiere (Avengers, Lobo, Five Ghosts) and Kevin Roditeli (The Exiled, Zorro: Man of the Dead) are co-writing, with Jorge Corona (Transformers, Batgirl, Middlewest) handling art fresh off his award-winning run.

“SWAT KATS had this gritty style, great character work, and political undertones that made it unforgettable,” said Illidge. “It’s like Batman meets Blacksad. When Kevin asked me to jump in—I was all in.”

Originally created by Christian and Yvon Tremblay, SWAT KATS first aired in 1993 on Cartoon Network, produced by Hanna-Barbera. Known for its jet-fueled action and stylish animation, the show reached fans in over 76 countries and has since become a defining piece of ‘90s animation nostalgia.

“It’s a dream come true to finally bring SWAT KATS to comics,” said the Tremblay Brothers. “We couldn’t ask for a better team to help reintroduce this universe.”

Set in a crumbling MegaKat City, the comic will follow the Radical Squadron as they face their biggest threat yet. It’s just the beginning of what the team promises will be a bold new era for the franchise—with plans that extend beyond comics.

“I grew up on SWAT KATS,” said Barbiere. “Now we’re bringing that same excitement to a modern audience—while giving longtime fans something to be proud of.”

“I used to sketch missiles for the Turbo Kat as a kid,” added Corona. “Being part of this first comic version of the Radical Squadron? It’s unreal.”
