At today’s Retailer Panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Comics unveiled a stunning new round of variant covers for Deadpool/Batman #1, the hotly anticipated Marvel/DC crossover one-shot hitting shelves on September 17. The reveal included eye-catching work from superstar artists Russell Dauterman, Daniel Warren Johnson, and comic book legend Frank Miller.
Dauterman’s variant pays homage to George Pérez’s iconic Infinity Gauntlet #1 cover and teases several surprise team-ups, including a newly announced Rocket Raccoon and Green Lantern story by cosmic maestro Al Ewing and artist Dike Ruan. “The pairing felt random at first,” Ewing said, “but there’s a kaleidoscope of connections between these universes—and we ran with it.”
Johnson’s variant pits two Jack Kirby titans—The Thing and Big Barda—against each other in an epic face-off, while Frank Miller’s contribution goes beyond cover art: he’s also writing and illustrating a backup story featuring Old Man Logan and the future Batman from The Dark Knight Returns.
