There is a veritable cornucopia of new comics hitting stands each week. While readers often know exactly what it is they’re most interested in (those in the know have got their pull-list sitting in their comic shop’s ever-reliable hands), there is something to be said about going against that old truism and Judging a Book by Its Cover.
Some truly astounding cover art hits each and every week, and these are the ones that caught Colin’s eye the week of August 6th, 2025.
Archie vs. Minor Threats #1
Variant by Joe Quinones

I love the depth Quinones adds to the world of Riverdale. The Minor Threats crew look, of course, radically different from the Archie crew, but even Arch, Jughead, and Sabrina look somehow more present than they do in their own comics.
Birds of Prey #24
Variant by Bruno Redondo

There’s an athletic go-gettism to this image: Canary’s determination, staring up at the challenge of the workout. It speaks to Canary’s commitment, but it also of the daunting training standing in front of any fighter.
Hello Darkness #13
Variant by Tula Lotay

The threat of the knife in a back is certain, of course, but it’s that shadow’s wild glowing eyes that provide the largest fright in Lotay’s new variant. A manifestation of intentioned evil.
Hellverine #9
Variant by J Scott Campbell

Just your standard Burny Bone Boy on a Bike, in Campbell’s ever-present slick style. It’s interesting how the Rider’s styles have sort of melded over time — Danny Ketch’s spikey leather jacket, Johnny’s old-school bike.
JSA #10
Cover by Leonardo Romero

This hyper-stylized group portrait is such a compelling use of negative space. A great, unique way to showcase the characters.
Red Sonja vs. Army of Darkness #5
Variant by Björn Barends

It isn’t ever a good day to be Ash Williams, even when backed by the formidable Red Sonja. I love her ritual paint in blue contrasting all that gooey monster red.
Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma #5
Variant by Steve Beach

Even if Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma wasn’t an incredible book as it is, the covers have been consistently worth the cover price. It’s a book everyone should be picking up, and not just because it looks like this.
Sonja Reborn #1
Cover by Stjepan Šejić

Sonja earns a second spot this week with this expressive and horrifying giant lizard beast cover. It’s her face that does it for me, here: she seems like someone you might actually meet, rather than the sort of comic-book shorthand shape of a pretty woman’s face. The monster doesn’t hurt, either.
