‘Batman’ #1 breaks 500,000 copies sold ahead of Batman Day

DC has revealed that Batman #1, the highly anticipated new series from Eisner Award-winning writer Matt Fraction and superstar artist Jorge Jiménez, has already sold more than half a million copies—just in time for Batman Day on September 20!

The landmark first issue marks a bold new chapter for the Dark Knight, showcasing a brighter, superhero-forward vision of Gotham, a redesigned Batmobile, and a sharp blue-and-gray costume that sets the tone for the series. With colors by Tomeu Morey and letters by Clayton Cowles, the debut sold out through comic distributors and is now headed back for a second printing, arriving in shops October 15.

This latest launch is only the fourth time in Batman’s 84-year history that the title has been renumbered. Fans who haven’t secured a first printing can still check their local comic shops on Batman Day for remaining copies—or reserve the second printing for their pull list.

The second printing will spotlight a recolored Batman logo on Jiménez’s original cover for issue #1, a new cardstock open-to-order variant by Jiménez and Morey, and an additional variant from Dan Mora, available in both cardstock and foil editions.
