Marvel has released a first look at X-Men: Age of Revelation Overture #1, the one-shot that kicks off a brand-new era for the mutants. Written by Jed MacKay with art by Ryan Stegman, the special picks up right after the shocking events of X-Men #22, where Doug Ramsey — now Revelation, the Heir of Apocalypse — rejoined the team, setting the stage for a dark new future.
“We’ve hit Cyclops pretty hard over the last year and change- but nothing has compared to the wringer we’re about to put him through,” MacKay explained. “Cyclops is in a situation with uncertain allies, limited planning capacity, and zero control- and no guarantee of victory with these changed X-Men he finds himself amongst. And that? That’s when these characters are at their most exciting.”
Read up on the Age of Revelation via X-Men Monday interviews with Jed MacKay and Tom Brevoort.
The preview teases Cyclops awakening ten years later, pulled forward in time by a desperate band of X-Men to witness the devastating consequences of Revelation’s rule. With mutantkind twisted into a dystopian utopia, Cyclops must lead one final strike against Revelation, even as the knowledge he gains here will shape the present-day stories launching in January’s Shadows of Tomorrow.
