Vault Comics and Matt Dinniman’s ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl: Crocodile’ smashes crowdfunding records

The graphic novel—set to arrive in 2026—promises to open the World Dungeon in a way fans have never seen before.

Vault Comics and author Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl: Crocodile campaign has officially leveled up into crowdfunding history. Closing Monday with more than $2.3 million raised and over 23,000 backers, the campaign now ranks among the top four highest-grossing comic book crowdfunding efforts ever, while also becoming BackerKit’s most funded and most supported comic campaign to date.

Even after its official close, the campaign is still surging in “Overtime Mode,” with an uninterrupted “Backer Train” of more than 2,500 fans continuing to grab copies and chase newly unlocked stretch goals. Dozens of bonus perks—including an exclusive edition of the printed Dungeon Crawler Carl Webtoon from Vault—have helped fuel the frenzy.

“I’m absolutely blown away by the support for the Dungeon Crawler Carl: Crocodile campaign,” said creator Matt Dinniman. “Y’all made this one of the biggest crowdfunding campaigns ever. Thank you, everyone. You rock.”

A collaboration between Dinniman, writer Michael Moreci, artist Brett Bean, and Vault Comics, Dungeon Crawler Carl: Crocodile is a brand-new, canon graphic novel expansion to the wildly popular DCC universe. The story follows Florin DuPont, a mercenary loner competing in the alien game show Dungeon Crawler World, where surviving bizarre monsters and absurd deathtraps is all part of entertaining an interstellar audience.

The graphic novel—set to arrive in 2026—promises to open the World Dungeon in a way fans have never seen before, introducing new characters, threats, and weapons alongside returning favorites.

The original Dungeon Crawler Carl series has sold over four million copies and earned New York Times–bestseller status, following Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as they navigate a deadly, reality-TV-style dungeon after the apocalypse. A television adaptation from Universal International Studios and Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door—with Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian) attached to write—is currently in development.
