Marvel brings back ’90s X-Men hype with new ‘Shadows of Tomorrow’ trading card covers

Marvel is kicking off SHADOWS OF TOMORROW—the next big chapter in X-Men history—this January, and they’re celebrating the shift with a nostalgia-packed twist. The publisher’s elite Stormbreakers artist cohort is delivering a full wave of X-MEN TRADING CARD VARIANT COVERS, styled after the iconic ’90s trading card boom that helped make the mutants a pop-culture juggernaut.

These variants arrive just as the X-books prepare to rebuild from the fallout of Age of Revelation, arming the X-Men with the future knowledge they need to stop one of the darkest timelines ever glimpsed in Marvel Comics. With alliances evolving, new missions forming, and fresh teams rising—this is the moment mutantkind fights to keep their future from collapsing into the Shadows of Tomorrow.

The trading card variants will appear across the X-line—including the buzzy new launches ROGUE and INGLORIOUS X-FORCE—each framed like a classic collectible card featuring bold character art and stats-style presentation.

Marvel’s current Stormbreakers lineup—Alessandro Cappuccio, Netho Diaz, Simone Di Meo, Juan Frigeri, Gurihiru, Jonas Scharf, Geoff Shaw, and Luciano Vecchio—brings cutting-edge talent and imaginative flair to the initiative, continuing a legacy that began in 2020 and evolved from Marvel’s Young Guns program. Previous Young Guns alumni include heavy hitters like Steve McNiven, Sara Pichelli, Ryan Stegman, and more.

All eight trading card covers are now revealed, and fans can preorder them through their local comic shops before they sell out.
