#5: Escape #4

‘Escape’ #4 is an emotional, honest issue

Escape #4 trades high-speed chases for emotional honesty and political weight, delivering a powerful, introspective chapter that challenges both Milton and the reader to question what “good guys” and “bad guys” really mean. It’s one of the series’ most personal, resonant issues to date, elevated by Remender’s raw writing and Acuña’s expressive storytelling.

#4: The Infernal Hulk #1

‘The Infernal Hulk’ #1 is a must-read chapter for longtime fans

The Infernal Hulk #1 delivers a ferocious reinvention of Marvel’s mightiest monster, pairing Johnson’s emotionally sharp, lore-rich horror storytelling with Klein’s career-best, nightmare-fueled visuals. It’s bold, bloody, smart, and instantly gripping—precisely the kind of transformation story Hulk fans will be talking about for years to come.

#3: Black Cat #4

‘Black Cat’ #4 shows Felicia Hardy at her best (and worst)

Black Cat #4 showcases its titular heroine at her best and worst, as her desire to be a hero finally lands her an arch-nemesis of sorts. This comic keeps getting better with every issue, as Wilson and Melnikov have found the perfect blend of humor and action to hook fans of every stripe. I hope they keep it up for as many issues as humanly possible.

#2: Batman/Green Arrow/The Question: Arcadia #1

‘Batman/Green Arrow/The Question: Arcadia’ #1 review: class warfare

At only one issue in so far, it’s a little too early to call Arcadia one of the best books DC has released this year, but it’s extremely close to being there. Hardman’s tale of three vigilantes uncovering a mystery involving the world’s elite is already compelling from the back cover synopsis, and yet what you get as you read the actual contents of the issue is even more engrossing than you’d expect from that back cover blurb. As someone who loves to see my fictional superheroes interact and tackle real world societal issues, Arcadia hit the bullseye for me, and I can’t wait for the next issue.

#1: DC K.O. #2

‘DC K.O.’ #2 plays out like a brutally fun RPG

Of course, Snyder and Fernandez still have time to pull the rug from under everyone, and make another (perhaps unlikely) DC character the King Omega. That character, for example, could be Lex Luthor, given the epiphany he had inside the Phantom Zone. The King Omega could also be the Absolute Universe version of Superman, who is himself born out of Darkseid energy. Whichever way the story goes, Snyder and Fernandez will inevitably make it fun – but it will still need to come up with a new message about the Man of Steel that isn’t retreading what fans have known for almost a century.
