Event Horizon is back from hell: Prequel sells out, sequel comic set 200 years later

EVENT HORIZON: INFERNO, arriving in April 2026.

Nearly 30 years after its theatrical debut, Event Horizon has clawed its way back into the spotlight—this time conquering the comic book world. IDW Publishing has revealed that all four issues of its prequel series have officially sold out, marking a massive success for the cult-favorite sci-fi horror franchise.

And the nightmare is far from over.

IDW has officially announced a brand-new ongoing series, set 200 years after the events of the original film, titled EVENT HORIZON: INFERNO, arriving in April 2026. The series reunites Eisner Award–winning writer Christian Ward with artist Rob Carey, pushing the franchise into darker, more extreme cosmic horror than ever before.

“I’m thrilled to continue the story of Event Horizon. First we told you the story about what happened before the events of the film and now we’re exploring what happened after the credits rolled,” said Ward. “Get ready for more sci-fi, more excitement and especially more cosmic terror. There are more demons in hell and we’re only just beginning.”

Meanwhile, the prequel series EVENT HORIZON: DARK DESCENT, credited to Ward, Tristan Jones, Pip Martin, and Alex Ray, continues to shatter expectations. After repeated sell-outs fueled by critical and fan acclaim, IDW is issuing the final reprints of all four issues. These will be the last physical single-issue printings ever produced, with no further reprints planned before the collected trade paperback arrives in summer 2026.

Preorders for these final printings are due December 15, with all four hitting comic shops on February 4, 2026—the same day the chilling final issue of the prequel series arrives.
