DC Comics has announced its Summer of Supergirl publishing initiative, positioning the Girl of Steel at the center of Superman Day celebrations with retailer events, fan activations, and a wide range of new and returning titles aimed at readers of all ages. Super DC fans will probably remember that last year was the Summer of Superman, and this push is similar in a variety of ways.
This year’s Superman Day will carry additional momentum as excitement builds for the theatrical release of Supergirl, arriving in June. DC is encouraging retailers and fan communities to participate through themed in-store and digital promotions. Planned activities include creator signings, limited-time offers, curated reading lists, fan events, and loyalty promotions. Updates will be shared through DC’s social media channels and official website.
Superman Day takes place on April 18, commemorating Superman’s debut in Action Comics #1 in 1938. Supergirl joined DC’s mythology more than twenty years later with her first appearance in Action Comics #252 on March 31, 1959. Since then, Kara Zor-El has remained a defining symbol of resilience and inspiration for readers worldwide.
A wide range of Supergirl stories arrive this summer
The publishing lineup begins with a facsimile edition of Action Comics #252, reprinting the landmark story that introduced Supergirl. Readers can also revisit Supergirl: Being Super, the acclaimed coming-of-age graphic novel by Mariko Tamaki and Joëlle Jones. The story will return in a newly colored and reformatted edition. Additional stories will highlight key chapters in Kara’s history, offering both longtime readers and newcomers a deeper understanding of her character.
Superman Day exclusives spotlight Supergirl and Superman
Superman Day will feature several exclusive releases, beginning with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1 Superman Day 2026 Special Edition. The sampler reprints the opening chapter of Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Mat Lopes’ acclaimed story, which inspired the upcoming film. The release follows Kara as she travels across space alongside a loyal dog and a grief-stricken young companion on a journey that reshapes her destiny.

Retailers will also carry two additional Superman Day variants of the issue, including a foil-enhanced edition and a blank sketch cover intended for signings and collectible art.
Readers interested in the full story will be able to find Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in multiple collected editions, including deluxe hardcover versions, DC Compact Comics format, and trade paperback collections.
New previews and returning launches
Superman Day will also offer an early look at Supergirl: The World, an anthology celebrating Kara’s global legacy. The sampler includes two preview stories from the full hardcover, which features creators from fifteen countries exploring the character’s cultural impact. The complete anthology arrives in June 2026.

Another featured release is the Supergirl #1 Superman Day 2026 Special Edition, reprinting Sophie Campbell’s recent relaunch. The story follows Kara’s return to Midvale, where she discovers another hero has already taken the Supergirl identity. The issue introduces Kara’s new costume and evolving partnership with Lena Luthor while supporting the upcoming Supergirl Vol. 1: Misadventures in Midvale collection releasing in March.

Celebrating Superman’s legacy
Superman Day will also include the Action Comics #1 Facsimile Edition, offering readers a reproduction of the historic 1938 debut by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The issue will be available nationwide for $3.99.
DC will also release a facsimile edition of Action Comics #252, reprinting Supergirl’s first appearance along with the debut of Metallo.
Titles for younger readers and collectors
Families will be able to explore all-ages content through the Superman’s Good Guy Gang: Follow the Leader #1 Superman Day Edition. The sampler previews two graphic novels featuring Supergirl, Superman, Krypto, and other characters designed for younger audiences.
Another preview offering is DC Finest Presents Superman: Time and Time Again #1 Special Edition, which promotes an upcoming collection following Superman across multiple timelines and historical eras.

Superman will also be highlighted through the Superman #1 Special Edition, reprinting the launch issue of Joshua Williamson and Jamal Campbell’s current series. The sampler supports the upcoming Superman Vol. 1: Supercorp collection, which introduces a new chapter for Metropolis and Lex Luthor’s legacy.

Collector editions and expanded publishing plans
The lineup concludes with All-Star Superman: The Deluxe Edition, a premium hardcover featuring an exclusive dust jacket and a digital copy of the animated adaptation. The release will be available exclusively through comic shops while supplies last.

DC’s Summer of Supergirl initiative will continue throughout the year with additional projects, including the one-shot Summer of Supergirl Special, the new Elseworlds series Supergirl: Survive, facsimile reprints of Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes #23 and Lobo #1, and a W.I.P. art-focused edition of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1. The publisher also plans Supergirl-themed variant covers across its comic line.
Later in the year, DC will release From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a deluxe art book examining the development of the comic and its film adaptation. The book will include concept artwork, production material, and new interviews with creators and filmmakers. The volume is written by James Field, features a foreword by Jim Lee, and includes a cover by Bilquis Evely.
