Hello Kitty is getting her own comic universe and it starts this July via IDW

IDW and Sanrio are launching an all-new Hello Kitty series this July, sending Hello Kitty and Friends on a globe-trotting mystery just in time for Comic-Con season.

IDW Publishing has teamed with Sanrio to bring Hello Kitty and Friends to comic shops in a brand-new ongoing series aimed at readers of every age. The partnership introduces a fresh wave of Hello Kitty stories that embrace the character’s legacy of friendship, kindness, and joy.

The first title, Hello Kitty: Hello World!, launches July 22, 2026, the same week as San Diego Comic-Con. The series sends Hello Kitty and her friends on a worldwide adventure as they follow clues tied to a mysterious riddle. Each issue will spotlight a different destination and introduce new characters along the way.

The series is written by Eisner Award winner Mariko Tamaki, known for This One Summer and Zatanna: Bring Down the House, with art by Cody Lemieux. Together, they promise a bright, welcoming take on the beloved Sanrio cast that balances charm, humor, and heartfelt storytelling.

“It’s truly an honor to team up with Sanrio to create HELLO KITTY comics,” commented Davidi Jonas, CEO of IDW Publishing. “We’re thrilled to craft comics that celebrate the cute and fun spirit of the franchise while uplifting readers of every age. We can’t wait for these comics to bring inspiring and joyful stories to comic shops everywhere.”

With colorful covers from artists including Min Ho Kim and Justine King, Hello Kitty: Hello World! marks the beginning of a new chapter for the global icon in comics.
