Queen in Black grows with ‘Venom Unchained’ miniseries, revealing where Eddie Brock ends up

QUEEN IN BLACK: VENOM UNCHAINED, a three-issue Queen in Black tie-in series by Charles Soule and Juanan Ramírez, arrives in July.

This summer, Hela and Knull’s war reaches Earth in Queen in Black, a new crossover from Al Ewing and Iban Coello. Spinning out of Ewing’s current Venom run, the event centers on Mary Jane as Venom’s host and Eddie Brock, who was recently bonded to Carnage. Following announcements for Queen in Black: Defenders of Light and Dark, Queen in Black: Hela, and Queen in Black: Thor, Marvel has revealed Queen in Black: Venom Unchained, a three-issue tie-in that tracks Eddie’s journey from prison to the frontlines.

The series is written by Charles Soule, who previously explored Eddie’s time as Carnage in Eddie Brock: Carnage, with art by Juanan Ramírez, coming off his work on the current Knull limited series.

In last week’s Venom #256 by Al Ewing and Carlos Gomez, part of the Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral crossover (more on that in AIPT’s exclusive column with both creative teams), Carnage abandons Eddie Brock in favor of a new host, Torment. The shift brings Eddie’s time with Carnage to a sudden end, but the fallout is only beginning. Before he can take part in the looming battle against Hela and Knull, Eddie must escape prison and figure out his next move, which may involve finding another symbiote.

In this story, Eddie is now behind bars after his failed bond with Carnage, just as the Queen in Black’s threat closes in. He wants to return to Venom, but without a symbiote, escape will not come easy.

“When I agreed to write a new chapter in Eddie Brock’s ongoing story a few years back via Eddie Brock: Carnage, I had no idea it would keep expanding like this,” Soule said. “From Carnage to Death Spiral and now to Venom Unchained, there’s still so much to explore with Eddie and his relationships with symbiotes. He remains a fascinating character.”
