Marvel’s horror history is getting the deluxe treatment with The Best of Marvel’s Vampire Tales Volume One, the first in a new line of archival collections from Dark Horse. The series is focused on digging into the stranger, darker corners of the Marvel Universe and presenting them in oversized hardcover format. Following this release, Marvel’s Most Villainous: Magneto arrives on October 6, and Marvel Mightest Monsters arrives on October 13th.
Edited by Chris Ryall and John Lind, with design by Chris Shadoian, the collection features full-color reproductions of classic Vampire Tales covers, a new introduction, and a wide range of stories from the influential horror magazine that helped spark Marvel’s horror boom.
Originally launched in 1973, Vampire Tales was one of Marvel’s black-and-white anthology titles, leaning into stories that explored monsters from every angle. Characters like Morbius, Blade, and Lilith appear throughout, along with early stories featuring Satana, the Devil’s Daughter. The series gave Marvel room to experiment with tone and storytelling, pushing into darker territory than its standard superhero line.
This volume collects nearly 300 pages of material from the magazine’s first six issues, featuring work from creators like Chris Claremont, Gerry Conway, Steve Gerber, Gil Kane, Jim Steranko, Marv Wolfman, and many more.
The Best of Marvel’s Vampire Tales Volume One arrives August 18, 2026, as a 360-page hardcover, priced at $65.
