EXCLUSIVE: X-Men United #5 teases Lourdes Chantal’s return and a dangerous new wildcard

With the X-Men scattered across realities, a resurrected Lourdes Chantal, a shadowy threat, and the mysterious Justina LaGuardia could reshape everything.

Courtesy of Marvel Comics, AIPT can share an exclusive first-look at the X-Men United #5 solicitation and cover art. X-Men United #5 is doing more than teasing chaos, it’s quietly setting up a powder keg for July.

At first glance, the premise sounds almost ironic. Iceman tries to unite the X-Men for something closer to community than combat, and it completely unravels. The teaching corps is stranded on another plane of existence, leaving Graymatter Lane exposed at the worst possible moment. That alone raises the stakes, but the real intrigue sits in the names dropped around the edges.

Lourdes Chantal lurking “in the wings” is the first big signal. Readers will remember her sacrifice during the Hellfire Gala, where she teleported mutants to safety before being gunned down by Orchis agents. Her resurrection already hinted there was more story to tell, but positioning her here suggests she may not simply be an ally returning to the fold. The wording implies intent, patience, and possibly a new agenda shaped by everything she’s been through.

Then there’s the mention of a “shadowy figure,” which Marvel is clearly holding close to the chest. Given the book’s focus on fractured unity and vulnerable infrastructure, this feels less like a random villain and more like someone with a personal or ideological stake in tearing the X-Men apart while they’re scattered.

And finally, the biggest wildcard: Justina LaGuardia. A new name dropped without context is rarely accidental in a solicit, especially one already juggling multiple threats.

Then you have the cover art featuring Shadow King. What could he be up to?

Taken together, X-Men United #5 looks like a turning point issue. Launched in March, this is an early look at the end of its first story arc. The dream of togetherness collapses, key players return under questionable circumstances, and new pieces enter the board just as the X-Men are at their most vulnerable.
