This week’s Channel Surfing TV picks include a pair of animated series and an anti-hero. A Cartoon Network classic gets a reboot with Regular Show: The Lost Tapes. Devil May Cry returns for a second season. Then, a vigilante receives a special with The Punisher: One Last Kill.
Back to the Park
Regular Show was a popular animated series created by J.G. Quintel that ran for eight seasons on Cartoon Network. It followed a pair of slackers, Mordecai and Rigby, and their surreal adventures while they worked as groundskeepers at a park.
Regular Show: The Lost Tapes serves as a reboot to the original. Seeing how the series finale wrapped things up pretty nicely, Quintel is pretty secretive in his approach this time around. Many of the original cast are back, and Quintel promises that everybody’s questions will be answered in the first episode, a half hour special.
Regular Show: The Lost Tapes premieres today, May 11, on Cartoon Network.
A Brotherly Conflict
Devil May Cry is an action adventure video game franchise that centers on a demon hunter named Dante who defends Earth from demon invasions. Throughout the years, the fandom has grown pushing the franchise into different mediums including television.
The animated series will soon return for its second season. Once again another war begins to develop between worlds. This time around, Dante must not only confront physical demons wanting to destroy our planet, but also wrestle with his own figurative internal demons when he must battle his estranged twin brother Vergil.
Stream the second season of Devil May Cry beginning Tuesday, May 12, on Netflix.
A One Man Army
The Punisher made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again when he came to the aid of the titular protagonist. Many were hoping the character would make an appearance in the recently finished second season, but alas, he was nowhere to be seen. However, he does feature in his own special.
The Punisher: One Last Kill finds Frank Castle holding onto his last semblance of humanity as he looks for meaning in life beyond his thirst for revenge. Unfortunately, an unexpected force draws him back to his old life and into another fight.
The Punisher: One Last Kill releases Tuesday, May 12, on Disney+.
