‘Batman: Bad Seeds’ turns Gotham into a nightmare in DC’s next major crossover

DC says additional event titles and crossover details will be revealed in the months ahead as the full scope of ‘Batman: Bad Seeds’ unfolds.

One night. One city. Survival is not guaranteed.

DC Comics has revealed Batman: Bad Seeds, a new Gotham-wide crossover event launching in August and continuing through October. Led by Matt Fraction and G. Willow Wilson, the event centers on Poison Ivy unleashing an eco-terror attack that transforms Gotham City into a prehistoric wasteland over the course of a single catastrophic night.

The crossover spreads across multiple Bat-books, including Batman, Poison Ivy, Detective Comics, Batgirl, Batwoman, Catwoman, Nightwing, and Harley Quinn. Fraction and Wilson guide the core storyline, while each creative team explores different corners of Gotham as the city descends into chaos.

As Ivy’s influence expands, Gotham itself begins to mutate. Massive vines consume buildings, carnivorous plants overtake streets, and entire neighborhoods regress into something primal and hostile. With the Bat-Family under attack, civilians trapped throughout the city, and the GCPD fractured under Commissioner Vandal Savage’s militarized control, Gotham becomes a war zone by sunrise.

The story officially begins on August 26 with a prelude in Poison Ivy #47. Written by Wilson with art by Leandro Fernandez, the issue explores the fallout of Pamela Isley’s time as Gotham’s mayor. According to DC, the city may be done with Ivy, but she is far from finished with Gotham.

The same day also launches Batman: Bad Seeds – Sunset #1, written by Fraction and Wilson with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli, Cliff Rathburn, and Tomeu Morey. The issue begins with Gotham losing power as the sun sets, while Ivy prepares a desperate final move that threatens to leave the city devastated by morning. At the same time, Vandal Savage sees an opportunity to tighten his grip on Gotham while continuing his war against the Bat-Family.
