Marvel Comics has revealed the next major chapter in Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Nic Klein’s acclaimed Hulk saga. Beginning this September, the path to Hulk War kicks off with a series of oversized one-shots that pit the Infernal Hulk against some of Marvel’s most iconic heroes, starting with Wolverine.
Following the events of Infernal Hulk #10 in August, the series enters its final stretch before the Hulk War crossover launches in early 2027. The ancient evil known as the Eldest now controls Hulk’s body, and his influence continues to spread as he builds an army of twisted champions to reshape the Marvel Universe. Given what Eldest did in Infernal Hulk #7, things are going to be wild!
The first of four one-shots, Infernal Hulk vs. Wolverine #1, arrives in September and features artwork by Jonas Scharf. Additional installments include Infernal Hulk vs. Fantastic Four #1, Infernal Hulk vs. Spider-Man #1, and Infernal Hulk vs. The Avengers #1, all set to release through December.

According to Marvel, the opening chapter sees Wolverine leading a mission to rescue mutants who have been abducted and corrupted by Infernal Hulk. Standing in his way is the Father of Horrors himself, setting the stage for one of comics’ most storied rivalries.
“MARCH TO HULK WAR kicks off the final act of our story that Nic Klein and I started with Incredible Hulk #1 in 2023,” Johnson said. “It’s a series of one-shot battles between Infernal Hulk and Earth’s mightiest heroes, as Hulk gathers his terrifying Infernal Avengers for HULK WAR.”
Johnson also teased major developments in the opening chapter.
“The one-shots features one of the most epic rivalries in comics, INFERNAL HULK VS WOLVERINE, and an ending that I’m expecting to shock some people.”
The writer explained that revisiting classic Marvel battles helped shape the approach to the project while pushing the horror elements even further.
“The most fun aspect of this series were rereading old Marvel battles, reminding myself what’s been done and how hard we’ve been willing to go in the past,” Johnson said. “There were discussions about how violent we could go with these one-shots. I want to keep ramping up the horror vibe of the Hulk series, and for our readers to see things in these one-shots they’ve never seen before.”
Editor Mark Paniccia praised both the story and artwork, calling the issue “an absolute knockout of a fight comic” packed with twists, emotional stakes, and relentless action.
Marvel has also released covers for Infernal Hulk vs. Wolverine #1 by Nic Klein, along with variant covers by Juan Ferreyra and Ryan Stegman.
