‘Loba Loca’ expands the MFKZ universe with a wild new road trip adventure

The MFKZ universe is getting bigger, stranger, and more personal with Loba Loca, a new graphic novel from Run and Guillaume Singelin that blends crime, family secrets, and a dangerous journey of self-discovery.

Oni Press and Magnetic Press, in partnership with France’s Label 619, have announced an upcoming Kickstarter campaign for Loba Loca, a new original graphic novel set in the acclaimed MFKZ universe. The project reunites MFKZ creator Guillaume “Run” Renard with celebrated cartoonist and animator Guillaume Singelin (PTSD) for an action-packed story that explores identity, family, and survival amid a chaotic urban landscape.

Fans can now be notified when the campaign launches on Kickstarter.

What began with Run’s 2002 short film Mutafukaz: Operation Blackhead has grown into an internationally recognized franchise, including the acclaimed MFKZ graphic novels and the Studio 4°C animated feature film released by Netflix. Now, Loba Loca returns readers to that world through the eyes of a new protagonist and a story that shifts focus from conspiracies to personal discovery.

At the center of the story is Guadalupe “Guada” Mayflower, a rebellious 17-year-old struggling with bullies, social media fallout, and the frustrations of everyday life. After a public outburst leaves her confined to home, Guada discovers a diary hidden in her mother’s attic that reveals shocking truths about her family’s history, including the identity of her notorious father. The discovery sends her on a perilous journey through the city’s criminal underworld, where she’ll encounter legendary luchadores, dangerous criminals, and reality television personalities as she searches for answers about her past and herself.

“From the hyperactive imagination of both Run and Guillaume Singelin comes a wild ride that expands the world introduced in MFKZ, tearing it open to expose a beating, human heart,” said Magnetic Press Director of Publishing Mike Kennedy. “The combination of Run’s gritty, pulp-inspired storytelling and Singelin’s cinematic artwork creates an experience that stands apart while remaining firmly rooted in the world fans love.”

Kennedy added that Loba Loca distinguishes itself by grounding its story in themes of teenage isolation and self-discovery, even as it unfolds within the surreal and often dangerous setting established by MFKZ.

In addition to a standard softcover edition, the Kickstarter campaign will offer a Deluxe Hardcover and a Limited Edition Slipcase Edition featuring a foil-stamped textured slipcase, a foil-stamped bookplate, and an exclusive set of enamel pins.
