A Luigi’s Mansion remake is coming to 3DS this year

The ghosts are back.

Luigi’s Mansion, classic launch game for the GameCube and one of the first games starring Mario’s brother Luigi as a main character, will be remade on the Nintendo 3DS later this year.

The news came out of Nintendo’s Nintendo Direct conference, where the company announced other games like WarioWare Gold and gave some updates on Detective Pikachu.

Luigi’s Mansion was critically acclaimed, and the most successful launch title for the Nintendo GameCube. The game was well received for its interesting puzzles and, at the time, impressive graphics. It tells the story of Luigi, who is trying to find his brother Mario, who has gone missing. He does so in a haunted mansion with a Ghostbusters-style vacuum dubbed the Poltergust 3000.

The 3DS version will be unique in that the game’s minimap will be displayed on the bottom screen of the device, featuring a charming NES sprite representing Luigi.

No official release date for the Nintendo 3DS remake was given, but Nintendo has said the title will be coming "later this year."
