Super Mario Maker is coming to Nintendo Switch.
The world’s first look at Super Mario Maker 2 footage was shown to kick off today’s Nintendo Direct video presentation. The game will be a sequel to the Wii U original rather than a remake, and it will contain all new options for levels, including the highly requested ability to create slopes and hills. The cat suit from New Super Mario Bros. was also shown, as was the angry sun from Super Mario Bros. 3.

The original Mario Maker came out for Wii U in September 2015, and gave players the opportunity to design their own Super Mario levels for the first time. Featuring graphics and options from the original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros., the game created endless possibilities and has resulted in some of the most original platforming levels ever created (as well as, of course, some of the worst).
Equally as exciting as today’s news is Super Mario Maker 2‘s release date: June 2019. We only have to wait four months before we can play one of the Wii U’s finest titles on the Nintendo Switch.
