Pokemon Sword and Shield release date announced

Fans finally know when the highly anticipated game arrives.

Wednesday morning saw Nintendo make a number of exciting announcements during their Pokemon Direct presentation. During the fifteen minute or so presentation, perhaps the biggest announcement was that of the release date for the pair of highly anticipated upcoming Switch games, Pokemon Sword and Shield — November 15, 2019.

You can view the entire presentation below.

Pokemon Sword and Shield will be the first main series games in the eighth generation of the Pokemon series. Sword and Shield were officially unveiled during a special Nintendo Direct presentation on February 27, 2019, which introduced the game’s region and starter Pokemon.

The starters are: Grookey, a grass-type simian; Scorbunny, a fire-type rabbit Pokemon; and Sobble, a water-type chameleon. The presentation coincided with Pokemon Day, a fan celebration of Pokemon on the anniversary of the Japanese release of Pokémon Red and Green.

Starting today fans can pre-order a double pack of the game, which includes both Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, or pre-order Sword or Shield individually.

In less than a week Nintendo will hold another Direct livestream at the annual E3 gaming convention, held each year in Los Angeles June 11-13. It’s possible more Sword and Shield details will be released there.
