Today is a big day for Nintendo fans.
This morning at Nintendo’s Pokemon Direct presentation fans saw the release date for Pokemon Sword and Shield revealed, and with it gamplay footage, along with other exciting content, including two new legendary Pokemon — Zacian and Zamazenta.
The legendary pair of wolf-like Pokemon will be gracing the covers of the new games, with Zacian appearing in Sword, and Zamazenta appearing in Shield. Nintendo got quite literal with their design, with both Pokemon carrying the motif of their respective game, as one has a sword, and one has a … well, shield. Very creative, we know.
Zacian
“Its shining blade can cut through anything.”

Nintendo
This Pokemon caries a sword in its mouth and is described as, “attacks so gracefully that its movements can even captivate its opponents. It holds what appears to be a sword in its mouth.”
Zamazenta
“Its gleaming shield can turn back any attack.”

Nintendo
Not much to guess at here, the yin to Zacian’s yang is a Pokemon that very much resembles a fancy looking shield you’d find in a fantasy novel. This defense minded Pokemon is described as, “regal and majestic movements overwhelm any opponents that dare face it. Its body is covered in what seems to be a shield.”
There’s no word at this time on what type of Pokemon Zacian and Zamazenta are, but as they are both sporting the same color scheme, and have opposing motifs, there’s little doubt they share origin stories.
