Roman Reigns has decided not to compete at WrestleMania 36 due to coronavirus concerns, according to a Pro Wrestling Sheet report.
Roman is immunocompromised as a result of his battles with leukemia, and didn’t want to risk his health. The company granted his request and will reportedly replace Roman with somebody else for the Universal Championship against Goldberg next weekend, though Pro Wrestling Sheet is unsure who he will be replaced with.
This is yet another in a long line of changes to WWE’s biggest event of the year as a result of coronavirus. WrestleMania was moved from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, and will be a two-day event in front of no fans consisting of matches that have already been taped.
While it’s unfortunate that WrestleMania has changed so drastically and that the Universal Championship match has changed so last-minute, these are unprecedented circumstances, and it’s hard to blame Roman for wanting what’s best for his health and his family.
WrestleMania will air Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5 on WWE Network at 7pm ET.
