Eight superstars have been let go from WWE in the first round of cuts. The company issued the following statement:
WWE has come to terms on the release of Drake Maverick (James Curtin), Curt Hawkins (Brian Myers), Karl Anderson (Chad Allegra), Luke Gallows (Drew Hankinson), Heath Slater (Heath Miller), Eric Young (Jeremy Fritz), EC3 (Michael Hutter) and Lio Rush (Lionel Green). We wish them all the best in their future endeavors
Update* — WWE has edited the original announcement to include Kurt Angle and Aiden English on the list of released talent.
Gallows and Anderson are a bit of a shock as the pair are regarded as one of the best tag teams WWE has, as well as being locker room leaders and a big boost to backstage morale. They wrestled recently at WrestleMania 36 in the Boneyard match with AJ Styles and The Undertaker.
Another surprise was the release of Drake Maverick, who has recently been announced as one of the participants in the upcoming interim Cruiserweight title tournament.
All of us here at AIPT would like to wish Maverick, Hawkins, Anderson, EC3, and Rush the best of luck with their future endeavors.
