Back in January, it was reported that J.J. Abrams and his production company, Bad Robot, were developing projects based off of the supernatural superhero group, the Justice League Dark. Today, HBO Max announced that they have ordered a series centered around the DC property along with two other shows from Bad Robot for their highly anticipated steaming platform.
There are very few details about the Justice League Dark project except that it will be a high octane one-hour drama. However, the press release did indicate that more information will coming soon.
Another show given a production commitment is Duster. It will be co-written by Abrams and LaToya Morgan and takes place in the 1970’s southwest where it follows a gutsy, getaway driver for an up and coming crime syndicate as he progresses from awful to wildly, stupidly, dangerously awful.
The third series is the horror-thriller, Overlook, which is inspired by and features iconic characters from Stephen King’s masterpiece, The Shining. It will explore the untold, terrifying stories of the most famous haunted hotel in American fiction. The project marks another collaboration between King, Bad Robot and WBTV who all previously worked together on Hulu’s Castle Rock.
The three Bad Robot series for HBO Max will be executive produced by J.J. Abrams and its Head of Television, Ben Stephenson while Rachel Rusch Rich, Bad Robot’s Executive Vice President of Television, will serve as a co-executive producer.
