Rockstar Games’ open-world epic Grand Theft Auto 5 is now free to download from the Epic Games Store until May 21. All you need to do to download the game is create an Epic Games Store account (which is free) and ensure that you enable two-factor authentication on the account.
A word of warning, at this time Epic Games is experiencing extremely high traffic on the Epic Games Store, which has resulted in some users encountering slow loading times, 500 errors, and/or the launcher crashing. They’re working on fixing it, so hopefully things are back to normal at some point later today. Regardless, you have plenty of time to download the game until it leaves the store on May 21.
Rumors were swirling that Grand Theft Auto 5 would be the next free game on the Epic Games Store and late last night someone at Epic accidentally revealed GTA 5 as the next free game in a since deleted Tweet. Luckily, Twitter user Wario64 snapped a screenshot of the Tweet before it was deleted. Silly Epic, nothing is ever really gone on the internet!

The most recent free game that’s leaving the Epic Games Store today is Death Coming. Developed by NeXT Studios, the non-linear puzzle game has charming animation and an unexpected Final Destination style to its gameplay as you play the role of The Grim Reaper on a mission to collect human souls.
Grand Theft Auto 5 was also a recent showcase on Microsoft’s primary gaming marketplace, Xbox Game Pass. Arriving in January, GTA 5 was free to play for subscribers until earlier this month on May 7, when it was replaced by Red Dead Redemption 2, another smash hit from Rockstar Games.
