Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 06/01/2020

The Legends of Tomorrow season finale, a bladesmith competition and a South African thriller.

For this week’s Channel Surfing TV picks, we have superheroes saving the day, students hopefully becoming the masters and Cape Town becoming a crime zone. The Legends of Tomorrow try to defeat the Fates in the season finale. Then, previous contestants of Forged in Fire return to challenge the very judges that critiqued their work. At the end of the week, dive into the criminal underworld of South Africa in Trackers.

Tempting the Fates

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow isn’t afraid to take the show to outlandish places. Just last week, the team found themselves stuck in popular TV programs such as Friends, Star Trek and Downton Abbey. This Tuesday evening, the season five finale is set to air on the CW.

Our heroes are still under the control of the Fates in a 1984-esque world. They must rally the civilians to take a stand for their right to choose. In an episode entitled, “Swan Thong”, you might even find a cameo appearance from a certain Dru Hill singer.

Reality TV with an Edge

The reality competition, Forged in Fire, sees smiths create intricate weapons to be used in various challenges. In the end, they see who can forge the best blades. It’s a series with a loyal following for seven seasons and it even spawned a spin-off.

The latest installment will have previous champions return to the show and compete against the judges to see if these weapon historians and experts can do more than critique. Forged in Fire: Beat the Judges premieres Wednesday night on the History Channel.

International Intrigue

Deon Myers is the author of the internationally acclaimed crime novel, Trackers. It was recently adapted into a six-episode series in South Africa. The drama is set to come stateside this Friday when it makes its American debut exclusively on Cinemax.

Trackers is an action-packed thriller that interweaves three stories in Cape Town. The different tales collide in a violent conspiracy that encompasses organized crime, smuggled diamonds, state security, black rhinos, the CIA, and an international terrorist plot.
