Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 06/08/2020

The What We Do in the Shadows season finale, the new animated comedy, Crossing Swords, and the latest Pokemon adventure.

This week’s Channel Surfing TV picks include a season finale and a pair of animated shows. The popular vampire comedy, What We Do in the Shadows, will end its second season. Crossing Swords is a new medieval stop action series from the creators of Robot Chicken. Pokémon begins its tenure at a new home with Pokémon Journeys: The Series.

A Shadowy Finale

It has been a fun ride this season following along the misadventures of the crew from What We Do in the Shadows. We watched Guillermo embrace his Van Helsing roots and dabble with vampire hunting before winning some concessions and better treatment from Nandor. There have also been surprising guest stars including Haley Joel Osment, Benedict Wong and Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.

Alas, all good things must come to an end and the show’s season two finale will air this Wednesday, June 10, on FX. Shadows has expanded the supernatural world this season by introducing ghosts, trolls, and witches. We may get a glimpse of more because according to the official synopsis, Nandor, Laszlo, and Nadja attend an exclusive event in the supernatural world’s social calendar and try to survive without the help of Guillermo.

Medieval Debauchery

Robot Chicken is one of Adult Swim’s longest running programs having aired for ten seasons so far. Some of the creators behind the multi-Emmy winning show have a new project coming out this week that also relies heavily on stop motion animation.

Crossing Swords is an adult comedy series that follows an idealistic and wholesome young man named Patrick as he trains as a squire in a royal castle. The more he is involved in the day to day operations, the more disillusioned he becomes witnessing the corruption and incompetence of the leaders. Things are further complicated as Patrick must deal with his criminal siblings and their attempts to make his life a living hell.

The entire first season of Crossing Swords will be available to watch, this Friday, June 12, on Hulu.

Netflix, I Choose You

Pokémon has had different homes in the U.S. while the anime has aired for over twenty years such as Kid’s WB, Cartoon Network and Disney XD. It was announced last April that Netflix would be the new home for the popular animated series.

The partnership between the Pokémon Company International and the streaming giant begins with Pokémon Journeys: The Series. Beginning with this 23rd season, the show will air exclusively on Netflix. Ash Ketchum and his loyal companion, Pikachu, continue on their quest to unravel the mysteries of the Pokémon. This time they are joined by a curious boy named Goh.

The first twelve episodes will be released this Friday, June 12, with new episodes added quarterly for the rest of the season.
