Ming-Na Wen to voice Fennec Shand in ‘Bad Batch’ series

‘The Bad Batch’ series just got even more exciting.

In a wide ranging interview yesterday with StarWars.com, Ming-Na Wen confirmed that she will be voicing Fennec Shand in The Bad Batch animated series.

Most of us already assumed Shand would appear when the she showed up in the trailer during Disney’s Investor Day Presentation last week. Now we finally have confirmation that the actress who portrays the badass assassin on The Mandalorian will continue giving the character life in a different series/time period.

Wen could barely contain her excitement over the news, stating:

“Do you know how long I’ve had to keep silent about Fennec coming back? This is the first time I’ve been able to talk about it! Everybody is saying they just want the confirmation. So, yes, it is Fennec! It’s a younger Fennec and she is voiced by me and I’m thrilled and beyond happy that Dave wanted to create more of a backstory for her.”

She also explained how the version of Shand we’ll see in The Bad Batch is much different than the one we know and love from The Mandalorian:

“She’s cutting her teeth as a bounty hunter in The Bad Batch…She’s still a loner, a drifter….There’s just a sense of more recklessness about her, just bravado. You know, a young punk. She’s more adventurous and willing to take greater risks because she doesn’t know what the consequences are.”

Since being criminally underutilized in The Mandalorian‘s fifth episode, Shand’s expanded role is Season 2 has allowed Wen to showcase her usual outstanding work with the character. It should be all types of fun to watch her portray a version of the assassin that is even more prone to shooting people/aliens dead.

Aside from the Bad Batch news, Wen also shares some great stories about growing up as a huge Star Wars fan and what it’s like working on The Mandalorian. The full interview is definitely worth a read.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go watch The Bad Batch trailer for the millionth time and feel even more excited than I was before.
