Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 07/26/2021

A popular game show and two different takes on beloved cartoon characters from the past.

For our Channel Surfing TV picks this week, we have a popular game show and two different takes on beloved cartoon characters from the past. We’ll finally see how LeVar Burton would do as host of Jeopardy. Then the Transformers Netflix anime comes to a conclusion in Transformers: The War for Cybertron Trilogy: Kingdom. Finally, catch new versions of your Hanna-Barbera friends in Jellystone!.

You Asked for It

We lost an icon last fall when Alex Trebek passed away. There were big shoes to fill when it came to the host of Jeopardy. As the game show moved forward, there was a revolving door of guest hosts who came from all walks of life. Some have been more successful than others while some choices were questionable.

One person who people seemed to rally around to replace Trebek was LeVar Burton. Thanks to a passionate campaign, he was eventually selected for guest hosting duties. All this week, the former host of Reading Rainbow and Star Trek: The Next Generation star will finally have his chance to show audiences what he can do in the role. This week is a perfect opportunity to impress the right people and perhaps fill in on a more permanent basis.

Jeopardy airs weeknights in syndication.

Let’s Get Primal

Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy has been a captivating anime series taking viewers all over the galaxy. It first began on Cybertron with the Autobots and Decepticons engaged in a civil war. Then their conflict moved to Earth as both sides searched for the AllSpark. The final chapter in the trilogy is set to be released this week.

In Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy: Kingdom, we are taken back to the “Beast Wars” continuity as the Maximals and Predacons join in the fight and come together with the Autobots and Decepticons. Both sides embark on an epic battle that will change the destiny of all Transformers.

Stream Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy: Kingdom beginning Thursday, July 29, on Netflix.

A Twist on Some Classics

Yogi Bear began his career as a supporting character to Huckleberry Hound. Eventually, he became a break out star and even exceeded Huckleberry’s popularity earning him is own show. He, along with many Hanna-Barbera creations, would have successful careers in animation but have been relatively quiet in recent years. Now Yogi, and the rest of the gang are coming back and have been updated for today’s sensibilities.

Jellystone! serves as a Hana-Barbera universe pulling characters from the different shows and placing them all in the titular location. With so many zany personalities in one place, it’s only a matter of time before someone or everyone gets into trouble. To add more of a pedigree to the animated series, it is created by C.H. Greenblatt of Chowder fame.

Jellystone! premieres this Thursday, July 29, on HBO Max.
