‘Y the Last Man’ canceled after just one season

News that ‘Y the Last Man’ is being canceled was revealed with three episodes still to be aired.

The beloved series Y the Last Man had quite a short life indeed as it has already been canceled by FX before the first season has even ended. The news came in a statement from showrunner Eliza Clark via Twitter. Based on the comics series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, the series ran 60 issues long and the show is ending far sooner than most expected.

Clark notes in her statement that she hopes the series about gender and identity will find another outlet, which is not unheard of in this day and age of streaming services. Shows like Lucifer were picked up by Netflix, for instance, which allowed it to play out an additional three seasons after being canceled. At the very least, Clark makes it clear FX was an “amazing partner,” so the process of creating the first season was a good one.

Premiering on September 13th, the ten-episode season will have its eighth episode “Ready. Aim. Fire.” premiere tomorrow, October 18th.
