The biggest new video games coming out the week of 1/31/22

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

January may have gotten 2022 off to a slow gaming start, February’s releases will surely have your wallet wonder, “Where’d all my money go?” The month starts off with an old-school inspired RPG finally launching for realzies, a collection of remasters, and a sequel to a beloved zombie game.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this month.

The Waylanders (2/2)

While a good chunk of The Waylanders has been available via Steam Early Access for some time now, the full game launches February 2nd. It takes inspiration from classic Bioware RPGs like Baldur’s Gate and Dragon Age. It features turn-based combat, Celtic mythology-inspired races and classes, multiple endings, and a “unique, party-based experience that time travels between two distinct eras: Celtic and Medieval.” The Waylanders has that old-school RPG charm that will be sure to please fans of the genre.

Life Is Strange Remastered Collection (2/1)

The first Life Is Strange may have been the peak of the episodic, choice-based storytelling games that Telltale Games made so popular. The series has done something in the years since that Telltale struggled to… survive — and perhaps even flourish. The success of LIS led to a prequel, Before the Storm, and two sequels, LIS2 and last year’s Life Is Strange: True Colors. This week Square Enix is releasing the first two games, Life Is Strange and Before the Storm, as part of a remastered collection promising graphical upgrades, puzzle refinement, and improved character animation.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human (2/4)

Techland releases its 500-hour, but really more like 20- to 80-hour, zombie game Dying Light 2 Stay Human this Friday. Expect the same fast-paced parkour and melee-combat from the first game against new and tougher zombies. Stealth gameplay will also be included, moving parts of the game from zombie action to zombie horror. Multiple playthroughs will be required to experience everything Dying Light 2 has to offer as the player can choose to align with one faction over another, destroy settlements, and make choices that change what parts of the map are available.
