The Pokémon Company celebrated Pokémon Day with a bang today. The biggest news of the day was the announcement of the ninth generation of Pokémon games, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. They look to expand upon the level design of Pokémon Legends: Arceus by going open world. You’ll see fan favorite Pocket Monsters roaming around Spain-inspired countryside and city locations in the reveal trailer.
We also get our first glimpses at the ninth generation starters. Fuecoco is a fire-type crocodile-like Pokémon, Sprigatito is a grass-type cat, and Quaxly is a water-type duck. Good luck trying to decide which little monster is the cutest.
An anime series set in the Hisui region of Legends: Arceus was also announced to launch later this year. In celebration of Pokémon Day, Arceus players can grab a free mystery gift of 30 each of Ultra Balls, Gigaton Balls, and Jet Balls today through March 31st with the code ARCEUSADVENTURE.
You can check out the reveal trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet below as well as the full 14-minute Pokémon Presents. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are expected to launch late 2022 for the Nintendo Switch. In the meantime you can catch ’em all in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which came out last month, and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, remakes of DS games that came out late last year.
