On Monday, Diamond revealed the first Miles Morales figure for its 7″ scale Marvel Select toyline. Unfortunately, that’s where most of the good news in this announcement ends.
I was fully prepared to write an article that snidely pointed out how Marvel Select can give us a figure packed with accessories (including a Spider-Ham static minifigure) for only $2 more than a lot of Marvel Legends go for these days. $29.99 is still too much, but at least there’s more value.
Then I saw the actual figure itself…oof.
You don’t have to be a seasoned toy collector to see that the sculpt is bad, thanks in no small part to the atrocious hip and chest articulation. The proportions are also completely out of whack.
I guess you could argue that the alternate head looks decent, but it’s hard to focus on that when the poor kid’s body looks like it was run small garbage chute. Considering what an awesome and beloved character Miles Morales is, it’s astounding just how bad Diamond let his first Marvel Select figure turn out.
Even the accessories are slightly below par.
I can live with the non-poseable Spider-Man, but the “Spider-Sense accessory” is going to make it look like Miles’ head is being attacked by a red starfish.
