Love is in the air this week, and what do we love more than anything else? New video games. Last year was a fantastic year for video games, and 2023 looks to continue the trend of releasing excellent games week after week.
Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this holiday-filled week.
Blanc (2/14)
If you need a break from the strategic battles of Fire Emblem Engage or the horrors of Dead Space, check out Blanc. It’s a beautiful, emotional game where two players will come together to guide a fox and a fawn through the wilderness after a sudden snowstorm. The black-and-white environments of Blanc were hand-drawn on paper before coming to life in the game, making it look almost like a playable animated movie. Gameplay is simple, with only two buttons and movement, and each animal has its on strengths to help the pair on their journey.
Returnal (2/15)
Returnal, one of the PlayStation 5’s best video games, arrives on PC tomorrow. The PC port will include new wide-resolution formats, better frame rates, custom ray-traced audio, ray-traced reflections, and haptic feedback via a plugged-in DualSense controller. You can head over to the PlayStation Blog for more info on PC specs needed for the game. Hopefully a strong interest on PC will help push Sony toward greenlighting a sequel for the standout roguelike (if it’s not being developed in secret already!).
Wild Hearts
If you need more monster hunting in your life after Monster Hunter Rise, look no further than Wild Hearts. It’s Feudal Japan-like environments look stunning and its creatures are grotesque yet breathtaking. Hailing from Dynasty Warriors and Toukiden developer Omega Force, Wilds Hearts will have players “master ancient tech to hunt down giant beasts” solo or together via co-op gameplay. It’ll feature cross-platform gameplay, meaning friends across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S will get to hunt down terrifying beasts together.
