There are major shake-ups happening at Embracer Group just a little over a year after acquiring Dark Horse. CEO Lars Wingefors announced the restructuring in an open letter alongside an investor webcast and a news release on Tuesday morning. Some game studios folded into Embracer Group will be shuttered, and games canceled, but it’s too early to tell how this might affect Dark Horse and its comics line.
“Embracer currently engages close to 17,000 people and while that number will be lower by the end of the year, it is too early to give an exact forecast on this,” Wingefors wrote.
Given Embracer Group purchased Dark Horse for its IP to be used in game development and in other areas, it’s likely Dark Horse is safe, but stay tuned to AIPT for any future developments.
These developments come on the heels of a major $2 billion partnership falling through last month, likely contributing to the need to slash studios and future games.
If you’re wondering about the upcoming Hellboy video game Hellboy Web of Wyrd being axed, that remains to be seen. That is being developed by Devolver Digitial, which was acquired by Embracer Group in 2020.
