Don’t be fooled. Our Channel Surfing TV picks for the week of April first are exciting series. In a world where most billionaires are selfish and self-absorbed, one tries to use her wealth to better society in the comedy Loot. Prepare for one final space adventure in Star Trek: Discovery season five. Then, a popular manga series inspires a live-action show in Parasyte: The Grey. 

A Woman on a Mission

On Loot, Molly Wells life falls apart when her tech billionaire husband is unfaithful. She is crushed by the divorce, but at least she walks away with a hefty sum. Though she may be out of touch with the needs of a regular person, Molly means well and finds new purpose working with her foundation that helps improve the lives of the less fortunate.

In the new season, the bromance between Molly’s cousin Howard and her assistant Nicholas continues to grow. The foundation’s boring accountant, Arthur, tries to become more adventurous. Romance is also in the air when the foundation’s executive director Sofia falls for an architect brought in to help with a new initiative. According to the trailer, there’s even a man who catches Molly’s eye, and he makes her all weak in the knees when around him.

Season two of Loot premieres Wednesday, April 3, on Apple TV+.

Let’s Fly

The Star Trek Universe may not be what it is today if it were not for Star Trek: Discovery. It was the first new show from the franchise in more than a decade, and its success helped spawn Picard, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds

Now, Discovery is coming to an end with its fifth season. The crew of the titular ship find themselves wrapped up in an important mission to retrieve an ancient power purposely hidden for ages because in the wrong hands, it could threaten the universe. Travel throughout the galaxy on a grand space adventure worthy of a last hurrah.

Stream the two-episode season five premiere of Star Trek: Discovery beginning Thursday, April 4, on Paramount+.

A Space Invasion

Parasyte: The Grey is based on Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga Parasyte. Although the live-action series is an original story that takes place in the same universe brought to you by Yeon Sang-ho of Train to Busan fame. 

The story takes place in a world where spores from outer space infect humans taking them over. A special government task force is created to destroy the threat. Caught in between is a young woman who forms a symbiotic relationship with her parasite and is able to retain her humanity while infected.
