Summer is in full swing, and what better way to beat the heat than staying inside and enjoying indie darlings and Triple A hits releasing week after week? This year has a lot to live up to compared to 2023’s best video games, but it’s been strong so far with releases like Princess Peach: Showtime! and Little Kitty, Big City winning over gamers and cat lovers alike.
Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.
Crypt Custodian (8/27)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
Islets developer Kyle Thompson is back with another enchanting metroidvania. Crypt Custodian casts you as a cat who is sentenced to clean up the afterlife after a bumbling meeting with the Afterlife Guardian. You’ll encounter other wayward spirits throughout the secret-filled interconnected world. Gameplay involves dodge-roll action and puzzle solving.
Akimbot (8/29)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S
Akimbot tells you all you need to know with its title. You play as a dual-wielding robot blasting your way through a world where only robots exist. Platform using grappling hooks and wall runs, shoot enemies up with a variety of weapons, and save the galaxy from destruction in this indie Ratchet & Clank lookalike.
Star Wars Outlaws (8/30)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S
Ubisoft’s first crack at a Star Wars adventure releases this week. Star Wars Outlaws moves away from the Jedi and places you in the leather jacket of scoundrel Kay Vess, who is working towards an all-time heist to pay off her debts. Gameplay is a mix of third-person shooting, stealth, and space combat. If you can put up with the usual Ubisoft BS, then Star Wars Outlaws sounds like a fun romp through the seedy parts of the galaxy.
