The leaves are turning, football’s kicking off, and the kids are back in school: summer has ended. But fear not, as the fall promises indie darlings and Triple A hits week after week. This year has a lot to live up to compared to 2023’s best video games, but it’s been strong so far with releases like Princess Peach: Showtime! and Little Kitty, Big City winning over gamers and cat lovers alike.
Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.
The Plucky Squire (9/17)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S
Just like a great children’s book, The Plucky Squire is an adventure for everyone. It follows the heroic Jot as he battles the villainous Humgrump, a sorcerer who has gained the power to rewrite the storybook the characters live in. Jot uses his ability to leap outside the book to gain an edge over Humgrump as The Plucky Squire blends 2D charming, picture-book-esque levels with levels set in the 3D ‘real world.’ Jot will solve environmental puzzles, battle goblins, and achieve victory in an assortment of minigames.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown – Mask of Darkness (9/17)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown revitalized the series earlier this year on its way to becoming one of 2024’s best metroidvanias. It receives its final piece of DLC (well, that we know of) this week via the Mask of Darkness expansion. It’ll add new story content in addition to a new biome full of enemies, traps, and ways to platform. In Radjen’s Mind Palace, Sargon loses most of his powers, amulets and healing potions, giving experienced players a difficult and exciting challenge.
Enotria: The Last Song (9/19)
Platforms: PC and PlayStation 5
Tired of drab, dreary worlds full of darkness in your soulslikes? Then head to the sun-filled Italian countryside with Enotria: The Last Song. You’ll still be tasked with saving the world, of course, but you’ll do it in style as Enotria‘s combat revolves around gameplay-altering masks. Each of the 30+ masks enables a new way to play, along with the game’s 100+ weapons and 60+ skills. You’ll be able to swap between 3 customizable loadouts at any time, encouraging experimentation and risk-taking. And after this month’s controversy, Enotria will in fact be heading to Xbox Series X/S at a to-be-announced date.
Also worth checking out: The Karate Kid: Street Rumble, EA Sports FC 25, Frostpunk 2, Copycat, Keylocker, God of War: Ragnarok on PC, Final Fantasy XVI on PC, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on PS4 and Xbox One.
