Lake Forest, CA – September 3, 2024 – Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of tabletop games, trading cards, and collectibles, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products and DC, today announced the launch of the Kickstarter campaign for DC Deck-Building Game: Arkham Asylum.
Following successful 2023 and 2024 DC Deck-Building Game Kickstarter campaigns, which earned nearly $2 million combined, this new campaign features the latest major release in the popular series: a base set focusing on Batman’s Super-Villains from the comics. In addition, fans can pledge for Batman and Joker editions of a Travel Box made out of premium material that includes a fold-out playmat. There are also several additional items and exclusives for fans to preorder, including two Crossover Pack expansions, an expansion for DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth, an expansion based on the Super Friends TV series, a playmat, 2DZ acrylic standees, resin tokens, and card sleeves.
“The DC Deck-Building Game community is at the center of what we do, and we can’t wait to spend another 30 days sharing our love of the DC universe and the series of games,” said Shahriar Fouladi, Vice President of Product Development & Marketing at Cryptozoic. “We chose Arkham Asylum as the theme of the latest base set because, like most fans, we love Batman’s rogues gallery and we wanted to design a game that puts them front and center. We are also very excited about the new Travel Box, which may be the single coolest game accessory we’ve ever created, and the introduction of 2DZ acrylic standees. We have lots of incredible stretch goals and surprises planned for fans!”
DC Deck-Building Game: Arkham Asylum showcases Gotham City’s Super-Villains, including The Joker, Harley Quinn, The Riddler, and Two-Face. Players compete to take down Batman and his allies, as they take Hostages, earn victory point tokens, and Bribe their way to the top of Gotham City’s criminal underworld. There are two amazing covers by talented artists: the Philip Tan cover showcasing numerous Super-Villains and the Kickstarter Exclusive Matteo Scalera cover featuring The Joker and Harley Quinn, which is only available in certain tiers.
The DC Deck-Building Game Travel Box allows fans to pack up their favorite games and expansions in the series and take them as they meet up with friends, attend gaming events, or travel. It comes in two versions: the Batman Edition and The Joker Edition, which is a Kickstarter Exclusive. The exterior of each box is made out of premium PU leather and features debossed design elements inspired by the character. The box cover closes magnetically and can be unfolded and removed to reveal a playmat on the opposite side showcasing iconic DC artwork by Jim Lee and Scott Williams. The single row inside the box can hold approximately 500 sleeved cards.
The campaign introduces Cryptozoic’s 2DZ acrylic standees. The four packs each include three or four standees and feature DC characters used in the DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth series, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Green Arrow, and Darkseid. Each two-sided standee is approximately 2.5 inches tall and includes a base. Players can use them for character movement in DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth or just to represent the character they are playing as in any game in the series.
The Kickstarter campaign has five expansions fans can preorder. The long-awaited DC Deck-Building Game: Crisis Expansion Pack 5 — Death Metal adds cooperative gameplay to any base game as players must work together to overcome Crisis events. Expanding the gameplay in the Dark Nights: Metal base game, the release adds a Crisis Line-Up of cards, 11 new Characters to play as, 12 Nemesis cards and Crisis cards to overcome, and two storylines to progress through based on Dark Nights: Metal and Dark Nights: Death Metal.
Other DC Deck-Building Game expansions in the Kickstarter are Crossover Pack 11: Dark Knights Rising, which lets players become the Batman Who Laughs’s Dark Knights as they try to defeat Earth’s Super Heroes; the Super Friends Expansion Pack, inspired by the classic animated series; Crossover Pack 12, which will only be fully revealed during the campaign; and Rebirth One-Shot Pack 3, adding Black Adam-themed gameplay to the DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth series.
The DC Deck-Building Game: Arkham Asylum Kickstarter starts today and runs until October 3, with pledge tiers starting at $75. Stretch goals, if unlocked, will add numerous additional cards and other upgrades to the products. Preorder items are expected to be delivered to backers in July 2025.
