The way we consume media has changed greatly over the years. Much has been written about the downfall of movie theaters, but audiences are still heading to their local cinemaplex to check out their favorite blockbusters. The lines may not be around the block anymore, but there are plenty of big name films that draw big crowds. ‘
Streaming continues to be a powerful force in film. While a strong argument can be made that streaming services are reaching oversaturation, the fact remains that a number of movies have forgone traditional theater releases and have gone straight to streaming. Same day theatrical and streaming releases are not as prevalent as they were a few years ago, but theatrical runs are shorter than ever.
Things have changed, but one thing remains the same. A great movie is a great movie. There have been bombastic blockbuster movies, record breaking indies, and everything in between. What are your picks for your favorite movies of the year? We will keep it simple. One movie that was released in theaters with oversized expectations (Deadpool & Wolverine, Wicked) and an indie film that might have flown under the radar (Strange Darling, Longlegs).
