A brand-new version of S.H.I.E.L.D. recently appeared in Chip Zdarsky and Valerio Schiti’s run on Captain America, setting the stage for this summer’s Avengers: Armageddon by Zdarsky, Delio Diaz, and Frank Alpizar. To mark the return of Marvel’s legendary intelligence agency, Marvel’s Stormbreakers artists have reimagined several heroes as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a new collection of Stormbreaker Variant Covers.
Arriving on select titles throughout April, the covers feature characters like Cyclops, Nova, The Thing, Boom-Boom, Thor, Wolverine, Deadpool, and even Hela outfitted for espionage missions across the globe. The artwork pays tribute to the iconic visual style of Jim Steranko’s classic Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. covers from the 1960s.
Marvel’s current Stormbreakers class includes Alessandro Cappuccio (Ultimate Wolverine), Netho Diaz (X-Men), Simone Di Meo (X-Men of Apocalypse), Juan Frigeri (Ultimates), Gurihiru (Jeff the Land Shark), Jonas Scharf (Ultimate Endgame), Geoff Shaw (Wade Wilson: Deadpool), and Luciano Vecchio (Uncanny X-Men). Each artist was selected for their standout work, creative vision, and ability to push Marvel storytelling forward with bold visuals.
The Stormbreakers initiative began in 2020 as the next evolution of Marvel’s Young Guns program. Over the past fifteen years, Marvel has spotlighted dozens of rising artists who went on to help define major events and flagship titles. Past honorees include Steve McNiven, Jim Cheung, Sara Pichelli, Ryan Stegman, and many others. This is the second series of Stormbreakers covers in 2026, with January’s monster covers revealed earlier this year.
