Frank Miller finally draws TMNT as issue #300 kicks off a game-changing era

Not only does ‘TMNT’ #300 mark a massive milestone, but also delivers Frank Miller’s first-ever Turtles cover and a shocking new story that changes everything.

Comic legends Jack Kirby and Frank Miller are key influences on the Turtles’ DNA, and now Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s creation is getting the Miller treatment. Now, decades later, that inspiration comes full circle as Miller draws his very first TMNT cover to celebrate a major milestone: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #300.

Ryan Balkam, IDW’s Director of Sales, emphasized just how big this issue is for fans.

“As a lifelong Turtles fan, it’s awesome to be able to celebrate the landmark 300th issue of TMNT and we’re going all-out to celebrate,” commented Ryan Balkam, IDW’s Director of Sales. “From a blind bag with an amazing artist lineup to Frank Miller’s first-ever TMNT drawing and a never-before-seen piece by Kevin and Peter, TMNT #300 will be the ultimate reading and collecting experience for TMNT fans this year. The whole team here at IDW, along with our partners at Paramount, have put our passion for this property on full display. TMNT #300 is a book made by fans for fans new and old.”

Beyond the covers, TMNT #300 sets the stage for the future of IDW’s Turtles universe. The issue launches the new storyline “The City That Never Dies,” from writer Gene Luen Yang and artist Freddie E. Williams II. The story brings major changes, including the unexpected return of Splinter and Tang Shen from the dead, along with other mysterious resurrections that hint at bigger consequences ahead.

The milestone issue also features a backup story from co-creator Kevin Eastman and writer Tom Waltz, alongside a lineup of classic TMNT artists. This story leans into the franchise’s history, as the time-traveling Renet journeys across timelines filled with familiar faces and eras.

Check out a slideshow of the cover in color and pencils. I imagine Stephen King loves this cover, given his recurring stacked turtles theme. Or is it just me?
