Deadpool and Punisher collide in Marvel’s four-part ‘Big Guns’ crossover

Frank Castle has Deadpool in his sights, and a new Marvel crossover promises plenty of casualties before the smoke clears.

Marvel Comics is bringing together two of its most dangerous antiheroes this September for a brutal new crossover event.

Teased yesterday and announced as part of Marvel’s annual 616 Day celebrations, “Big Guns” is a four-part storyline that unfolds across Wade Wilson: Deadpool and Punisher. The crossover reunites writer Benjamin Percy with artists Geoff Shaw and José Luis Soares for a showdown between Wade Wilson and Frank Castle that promises plenty of bullets, bloodshed, and destruction.

Both ongoing series have focused on returning their lead characters to a more grounded and ruthless approach, making a confrontation between the two feel inevitable.

“When you’re writing The Punisher, and you’re writing Deadpool—two street-level characters with opposite personalities—the math works itself out,” Percy said. “I had to bring them together. Violently. Get ready for non-stop mayhem, the re-invention (and glow-up) of a classic villain, and the introduction of the Merc-mobile (a rolling HQ I’m pretty damn excited about) as well as a new weapon that will change the 616 forever. Unlike Frank and Wade—who naturally despise each other—Geoff Shaw and José Luis are a perfect pairing, the best pens drawing the biggest guns.”

The story begins when one of Deadpool’s latest jobs spirals out of control and places him directly in Punisher’s sights. As Wade tackles a mission with massive consequences, Frank sees an opportunity to settle a score. Their collision sparks a violent chain reaction that neither man is prepared for.

Marvel is also teasing the return of a classic villain in a new form, along with the debut of the Merc-mobile and a mysterious weapon that could have lasting repercussions for the Marvel Universe.

With Percy guiding both series, “Big Guns” looks poised to be one of Marvel’s most explosive street-level stories of the year, unless you count Death Spiral.
