Marvel reveals new ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ #1000 covers and story details

New covers by Pepe Larraz, Alex Ross, and Mark Bagley join fresh details on anniversary stories from Dan Slott, Brian Michael Bendis, Frank Miller, Peach Momoko, and more.

Marvel Comics has unveiled the main cover for Amazing Spider-Man #1000 by acclaimed artist Pepe Larraz, along with a selection of new variant covers and additional details about the milestone issue’s all-star lineup of stories.

Arriving in comic shops on September 16, Amazing Spider-Man #1000 marks a major milestone for Marvel’s flagship web-slinger. The oversized issue will serve as a key chapter in Joe Kelly’s current run while also celebrating Spider-Man’s history through a collection of stories from some of the character’s most influential creators.

The newly revealed covers showcase a range of Spider-Man’s history and mythology. Larraz delivers the issue’s main cover, while Alex Ross pays tribute to one of Spider-Man’s most iconic moments. Mark Bagley’s variant highlights the hero’s extensive rogues’ gallery, bringing together many of the villains who have challenged Peter Parker over the decades.

Marvel also shared new details about several of the anniversary stories included in the issue. Stuart Immonen and Brian Michael Bendis reunite for “The Gesture,” an adventure that teams Spider-Man with the Avengers against a host of familiar enemies. Dan Slott and Marcos Martin collaborate on “Now I Can Rest,” a story that revisits the night Uncle Ben died and explores its lasting impact on Peter Parker.

The issue will also feature “Still Standing” from Noah Hawley and Patrick Gleason. Hawley, known for his work on Fargo and Alien: Earth, makes his comic book writing debut alongside Gleason.

Another standout story is “Tears of the Spider-Queen,” which marks the first collaboration between Frank Miller and Peach Momoko. The tale pits Spider-Man against the Hand, the deadly ninja organization that has long been a threat within the Marvel Universe.

Marvel has let us know that additional creator and story announcements are still to come as the publisher continues building anticipation for one of Spider-Man’s biggest comic book milestones.
