Monday would have been legendary Marvel Comics artist Jack Kirby’s 100th birthday, and though the King has fallen, his influence lives on to this day. Take the Wasp, for example. A character Kirby created alongside fellow Marvel icon Stan Lee, Wasp is set to make her cinematic debut (barring a brief and completely CGI cameo in 2015’s Ant-Man) in next year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. To celebrate the centennial birthday of the character’s creator, we’re getting our first look at the Wasp costume in action, courtesy of actor Evangeline Lily’s Instagram:
As would probably be expected, the look borrows rather liberally from the Ant-Man costume worn by Paul Rudd in the original film. Yet while the basic, tactical nature of the look fits the more grounded and realistic aesthetic of the MCU, fans of the character may be sad that the fashion-forward character has gone with a more mundane outfit – especially given the glimpsed prototype for the Wasp armor seen in the after-credit sequence of the first film.

Though it was a prototype, the unique color palette of the suit may be more appealing to some.
Over the years, the Wasp has had a number of different looks to choose from. Though her initial appearances did include the red and black aesthetic seen in the film…
…the character has adopted a more iconic black and gold look in recent years.
Ant-Man and the Wasp will not only see Evangeline Lily reprise her role as Hope Van Dyne, it will also welcome Michelle Pfeiffer as Hope’s mother (and the original Wasp) Janet. The film is set to be released in July of 2018.
