Suicide Squad #26 Review

It moves fast at times and the main antagonist is outshined, but in the end it’s all worth it.

Suicide Squad #26 continues the DC Metal story in part 3 of “Gotham Resistance.” After the defeat of the Riddler and Mister Freeze, Poison Ivy is infected by the dark multiverse. Get ready for one hell of a ride when the team returns to kick more ass and look good doing it.

First of all, as always with the Suicide Squad books, the art is phenomenal and with the new addition of the DC Metal storyline it adds a much more darker tone that’s new and different but doesn’t smother the rest of the book. It keeps the feel and look of both Suicide Squad and DC Metal alive. Even though DC Metal feels like it’s off to a slow start it’s still very interesting. You never truly knew how bright the DC Universe was until DC Metal came to play. Something about this art in the book is very visually striking and stunning.

The book opens up very strong with action and suspense, and of course, wherever there’s Nightwing and Green Arrow there’s comedy. Every page has more than enough content to gaze upon and enjoy. Every character in this story so far fits very well together without feeling too forced. Other than the main roster of characters there are some that feel forced and makes it very crowded at times. It seems very ‘villain of the week’ in the sense that every other page features a new antagonist. These issues of DC Metal also seem outrageously fast paced and doesn’t take a break from the action whatsoever.

The character designs and scenery look pretty nice. The first section of this book looked almost a little too much like Mad Max Fury Road. The whole ‘Knights’ theme to the DC Metal story is fine but it can seem really over the top, giving some unnecessary armor to some characters like Killer Croc. Nightwing, Green Arrow, Harley Quinn, Robin and Killer Croc are quite the team and seeing a team of heroes and villains working together and actually keeping the world safe really makes me want to see even more of this group. These tie-in comics don’t feel like filler to keep you over until the main series returns — they actually feel like they’re important and serve a purpose.

The villains of the story are a fantastic rogues gallery of fan favorites like Poison Ivy, Mad Hatter, and the Suicide Squad. Poison Ivy is supposed to be the main antagonist in this issue but I feel the other villains that make an appearance overshadow her completely. You honestly forget she’s even in this issue. The dialog was really great in most areas, especially with Harley speaking to Poison Ivy and even more so with Robin and Nightwing having some brother-to-brother bonding. The action was out of this world with so many different sequences going on between so many different enemies, including the Suicide Squad themselves and the return of the man himself, El Diablo. We really need Diablo to return to the main series instead of only showing up during crossovers or special events.

Suicide Squad #26 is definitely a step up from the last two DC Metal tie-in issues. It’s got more than enough action and some touching moments on top of that. It moves fast at times and the main antagonist is outshined, but in the end it’s all worth it. Definitely not one to miss out on.

Suicide Squad #26
Is it good?
Suicide Squad #26 is definitely a step up from the last two DC Metal tie-in issues. It's got more than enough action and some touching moments on top of that. It moves fast at times and the main antagonist is outshined, but in the end it's all worth it. Definitely not one to miss out on.
The dialogue was outstanding at times, especially with Harley Quinn, Robin, and Nightwing. The brother-to-brother moment was touching especially coming from that evil bastard Damian.
The art was very enjoyable to look at and a step up in an already gorgeous series.
The issue moves fast at times and get a muddy when there's a lot of bland brown colors all mixed together. Especially during the Mad Max opening.
