Rumor: Jake Gyllenhaal in talks to star as Mysterio in Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel

After facing down the Mad Titan Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and receiving praise for his work from Stan Lee himself, who will Tom Holland, in his now exemplary Spider-Man role, take on next in the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, set to begin filming this June?

According to the Sun newspaper, someone who is already known for a quasi-superhero role. Sort of. Donnie Darko, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Southpaw Hollywood A-list actor Jake Gyllenhaal. The 37-year-old actor was in competition with Ryan Gosling for the antagonist role, although Gosling had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts.

Producers were keen to sign Ryan but he was busy filming another project. Jake is a suitable alternative with experience of playing villainous characters.

The Sun’s source claims that Gyllenhaal is set to play Mysterio, a Hollywood stuntman and special effects wizard (real name Quentin Beck) turned villainous illusionist.
