Sombra’s Stealth and Translocator abilities now have an infinite duration

Now you see her, now you don’t.

Sombra is the next hero in line to get the Symmetra treatment, aka a massive rework.

Last week Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan responded to a Sombra post on the Overwatch community forums, informing players that Sombra would be receiving a “significant” update. There was zero indication as to what the changes to would entail, all Kaplan revealed is that fans would only have to wait a week to find out.

Time’s up.

Overwatch Developer Geoff Goodman had this to say on the Overwatch forums:

“So now she has infinite duration on both Stealth and Translocator, but we had to solve a couple problems that were caused by these changes. For one, she needed to be able to destroy the translocator, or it would often be stuck in some place she didn’t want it to be. To that end, you can now destroy it by looking towards it and pressing the Interact key. Also, Stealth giving you 75% bonus movement speed forever was… a bit strong. This bonus has been lowered to 50%. In addition, she can no longer contest objectives while in Stealth, since she that would just be super frustrating with infinite duration.”

Sombra now has infinite stealth and an infinite translocator, which gives her the ability to perhaps become the ultimate flanker in the Overwatch meta. Using an ability while in stealth will still reveal her, but as long as Sombra doesn’t take damage or use an ability, she has complete control over when she’ll be revealed. This is sure to give her a huge advantage and make her a significant threat to the backline, healers and players recently exiting spawn areas. Imagine a critical moment in the battle completely dominated by Sombra’s ability to ambush essentially anyone, anywhere at any given time.

At this time there isn’t a date for when to expect these changes to our favorite hacker, but Jeff Kaplan has stated that the changes are coming with the July patch, so we can expect fairly soon.
